Weymouth & Portland Olympics
Tickets went on sale for the 2012 Olympic Games some months ago now and if you are fortunate enough to have gotten tickets for the Olympic sailing events in Weymouth and Portland or if you are taking part or have family taking part then now is a great time to be searching for your accommodation whilst there are still vacancies.
Because the events are also taking place during the normal Summer Holiday period it is advisable not to leave it too late to book up somewhere to stay. Currently we still have some vacancies with Pratley Caravans for our luxury caravan accommodation based at Littlesea Holiday Park which is 3.8 miles 11 minutes away from the event.
The venue for sailing and water sports events is the Weymouth & Portland national sailing academy. I was being a bit nosey last year and went for a look around the place to see what all the fuss was about. What I found was a superb marina complex with accommodation and first class facilities that any Olympian or sailing enthusiast would appreciate. Built close to what used to be the old navel air station in Portland harbour the setting is perfect for the 2012 water sports events. I personally don’t live in the area but the people of Weymouth & Portland have something that they can be very proud of for years to come.
The events run from the 27th July to 12th August 2012 and the Paralympic games from 29th August to the 9th September. Remember this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for many of us so please go along and support the events and enjoy all that Weymouth & Portland has to offer.
Well, you have your tickets booked, your time booked off work, but how about getting to the venue, and your accommodation when you are in town. The good thing about Weymouth & Portland is that it accommodates large numbers of tourist every year so there is good accommodation in a number of forms. Hotels and guest houses are perhaps many peoples first thought but camping, and one of the many holiday camps in around Weymouth & Portland are also excellent choices. Also, don’t forget the many farms in the area that offer B&B and camping, some with breath taking scenery.

Weymouth is served by Southern trains and its station is in the centre of the town with the coach station just across the road. Wherever your accommodation, there’s sure to be transport of some kind very close to hand. Another welcome opening was that of the new Dorchester to Weymouth relief road. The road will make life a lot easier for motorist and residents alike and ease congestion also.
